The International Young Designers Contest 2020 online edition continues
Monday, 12 October 2020
The contest is organized by the Ukrainian Fashion Council with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. IED - Istituto Europeo di Design is the IYDC partner, award fund contributor and co-organizer of the online Fashion Visual Art Residence.
Internationally recognized fashion experts and jury members of IYDC 2020 Liana Satenstein, Giovanni Ottonello, Riccardo Terzo, Yu Masui, Philippe Pourhashemi, Anna Barr have already started the evaluation of the finalists’ collections. The winner, chosen by the competent jury, will be announced on October 15 during the online media conference.
During the September the videos, presenting the collections of IYDC 2020 finalists, were produced. IYDC video crew worked for two days on the location of Mystetskyi Arsenal, shooting fashion-story, presenting each finalists’ collection. However, online evaluation of any garments could be quite a challenge even for the experts. Therefore, for the coherent evaluation jury experts were provided with additional materials such as photos, descriptions, sketches and other information.
IYDC finalists were offered the opportunities to meet with each Jury member. The Jury experts shared their knowledge and experience in advising participants on how to become successful designers. The online format permitted to the IYDC organizing committee to expand the educational component of this year's contest: two lectures “Small brand – big impact” by Sabrina Gildehaus, CEO of Gildehaus consulting and investment company and “Foundation of customer-oriented strategy” by Rinat Nahum, CEO & Owner of 360UP GROUP were in this year schedule of IYDC educational program.
For the first time IYDC is conducting the public vote. A finalist, who will get the highest number of public votes, will get the special prize from IYDC partner “COCOS Fashion Trade”: the development of full branding and the consulting support for launching and promoting a young designer brand on the international market.
On October 12, 13 and 14, we invite you to watch the release of the video presentation of the IYDC 2020 finalists’ collections on https://www.facebook.com/IYDContest and vote for the collection you like the most. You just need to mention a designer's name in comments to the posts.

Also on the online media conference on October 15 the winner of the Fashion Visual Art Residence, will be announced by the Art Curator, Giovanni Ottonello. The challenge of this year Residence was to do the complete photo shoot online, when the members of working groups were physically located miles away from each other. Also, the participants had to overcome the cultural backgrounds and language barriers and to come up with the creative idea that would synergize the individual talents in a coherent expressive and meaningful visual story. One of the young photographers, chosen by FVAR Art Curator will be awarded with a scholarship to study at the IED - Istituto Europeo di Design.
This year 20 young designers from 12 countries: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia and Ukraine, - participated in IYDC 2020 online edition. Each finalist is the prize-winner of national young designer contests or those young designers, who have been selected by the recognized fashion institutions in their countries. This pre-selection process guarantees all finalists are of the highest talent and caliber.
As the multiple applications from young designers were received from the countries where IYDC has not yet established partnership with the national young designer contests, this year for the first time in the history of the IYDC, an “independent participant” from Netherlands was selected by the organizing committee to join the competition.
Grand Prix of International Young Designers Contest 2020 online edition is 5,000 $ and a scholarship for three-week summer course at IED- Istituto Europeo di Design, Italy.
